Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings Plc, his wife, Chizoba Wigwe, one of their four children, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, were involved in a helicopter crash in the United States on Friday
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) disclosed that The crash happened in California near the Nevada border, reportedly heading to Las Vegas.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated that as of yesterday morning, no survivors had been found.
The helicopter, registered to a tour company called Orbic Air, crashed around 10 p.m. California time while reportedly heading to Las Vegas.
Wigwe is also known for founding Wigwe University and has held various positions in Access Bank and other companies.
This marks the second crash in California within a week, following a Navy helicopter carrying five marines that crashed during a storm earlier.
Meanwhile, no agency or investigation has reported the cause of the crash.
EFCC vs Emefiele - new players
The EFCC declared Margaret Emefiele, wife of Godwin Emefiele, along with three others, wanted for money laundering.
Margaret Emefiele, Anita Omoile, and her husband, Jonathan Omoile and Eric Odoh, were declared wanted in connection with the ongoing legal procedures against Godwin Emefiele, where he was accused of defrauding the government out of ₦1.8 billion and $6.2 million.
Emefiele is also accused of posing as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to obtain the money illegally and giving bribes to his family members for contracts to renovate his mansion.
The EFCC has issued a call for any information on their whereabouts.
Ministry of Health instructs hospitals to treat gunshot wounds
Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, has reiterated that hospitals cannot turn gunshot victims away.
In a recent press release, the Minister’s office emphasized that gunshot wounds fall under medical emergencies requiring urgent attention to save the victim's life. It states that refusal to treat goes against the Gunshot Act 2017.
The press release says:
every hospital in Nigeria, whether public or private, must administer immediate and adequate treatment to gunshot victims, with or without police clearance,
every person including security agents shall render every possible assistance to any person with gunshot wounds and ensure that the person is taken to the nearest hospital for immediate treatment.
The ministry is also working on strategies to ensure compliance with the Act.
Nigeria’s sports achievements
Weightlifting: Nigerian female weightlifters Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye won six medals at the 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt on Monday, February 5th.

Football: After winning against South Africa's Bafana Bafana, the Nigerian male football team, the Super Eagles, will be playing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) cup against Ivory Coast at 9 pm on Sunday the 11th (Today)

During the match between Nigeria and South Africa, at least five people tragically died.
They include Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a member of the political party APC; Ayuba Abdullahi, Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University; a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member named Samuel; Anambra-born businessman Osondu Nwoye; and Mikail Osundiji, a sales rep in Ogun State.
Dr Ojougboh reportedly suffered a heart attack after a penalty was awarded against Nigeria during the match. Abdullahi collapsed and died after feeling dizzy at a viewing centre, while Samuel fainted before Nigeria's winning goal. Nwoye collapsed inside the stadium, allegedly due to the shock of a goal being cancelled. Osundiji died from shock after a goal was disallowed.
Medical experts attributed these sudden deaths to underlying heart conditions and emotional stress.
