Hi!
Sorry this is late (again). I am having a hard week! I thought joblessness would give me more energy but I am losing it. I was exhausted all week and I spent most of Friday nursing a migraine.
Enough about my struggles. Let’s get into Nigeria’s struggles.

Insecurity
The Nigerian military has been traumatising, abusing, and violating the human rights of women raped and forcefully impregnated by Boko Haram terrorists.
Since at least 2013, the Nigerian military has conducted a secret, systematic and illegal abortion program in the country’s northeast, ending at least 10,000 pregnancies among women and girls, a Reuters investigation has found.
Many had been kidnapped and raped by Islamist militants. Resisters were beaten, held at gunpoint, or drugged into compliance, witnesses told Reuters reporters.
More insecurity deaths
Borno
In a clash between farmers and herders in Borno State's Bayo Local Council over alleged encroachment on farmlands, 8 people were killed and many hospitalised.
"The people were killed after an argument by some farmers over an encroachment of their farmlands with cattle," Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad Region, revealed.
He said that another group of herders invaded on November 30, 2022, and they incited the cattle to destroy farm crops.
The security source stated that while other offenders are still at large, arrests have already been made.
Katsina
Assailants killed twelve worshipers—among them an imam—and abducted a number of others at the Maigamji mosque in Funtua, Katsina.
Funtua resident Lawal Haruna said that the gunmen rode up to the mosque on motorcycles and began firing randomly, forcing worshippers to flee.
Another local said, "They then gathered many people and took them to the bush."
According to Gambo Isah, a spokesman for the Katsina state police, who confirmed the attack, some worshipers were rescued by state-backed vigilantes with the help of some locals, but an unspecified number of worshipers are still in the terrorists' custody.
Army takes Boko Haram again
Over 24 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed by members of the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) task force in Mafa-Dikwa, Borno.
Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency expert, stated that all of the terrorists, who were hiding out in Sambisa Forest been killed in the villages of Bulakulari, Gwari-Gwazo, Loskori, Limanti, and Gaza.
He continued by saying that the villages were utilized to attack civilians and soldiers on the Maiduguri/Ngo road.
Along with other weapons used in attacks on some military bases and communities, the troops also found 40 bicycles.
"Troops made sure that the entire area was cleared of all suspected terrorist elements," the speaker continued.
Meanwhile, the rivalry between Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram continues.
A few weeks ago, the leader Boko Haram was killed supposedly by members of ISWAP. Last week, Boko Haram killed 33 women identified as wives of Boko Haram members in retaliation.
Arsonists attack INEC
On Sunday, arsonists attacked the INEC office in Imo state's Oru West Local Government Area.
This is the second attack on this INEC office this month. Last was on the 1st of December.
Festus Okoye, the INEC Commissioner of Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that this was the 7th attack on one of the commission's facilities in five states in the past 4 months.
Although office furniture was lost, vital infrastructure was unaffected.
He said, "The Commission expresses its concern regarding the impact on the conduct of elections and electoral activities in general of what appears to be a systematic attack on its facilities across the country."
Finance
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that weekly over-the-counter cash withdrawals by both individuals and corporate entities will no longer exceed N100,000 and N500,000.
More restrictions in the new policy
Weekly withdrawals through ATMs and POS cashback will be reduced to N100, 000 per individual. But you can only take out N20, 000 daily.
All cash withdrawals over the specified limits will be subject to processing fees of 5% and 10%, respectively, once the policy goes into effect.
Also, we won’t be able to take more bills above N200 out of ATMs- anything above will need to be withdrawn over the counter.
However, if you have valid reasons and documentation, the CBN will give you permission to withdraw N5 million (individuals) and N10 million (organisations) monthly. You will need to provide “due diligence” documentation (ID, BVN, letter from MD or organisation), and processing fees.
The CBN says the policy is in line with its cashless policy; to encourage more Nigerians to use alternative channels for banking transactions — mobile banking, USSD, debit cards, eNaira, etc
The updated cash withdrawal limits will be in enforced nationwide from January 9, 2023.
Fraud
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained D'banj over allegations of fraud.
Accused rapist, D'banj, was detained after refusing repeated requests to clarify his involvement in the alleged misappropriation of funds for the N-Power project.
The FG established N-power to combat unemployment and advance social development.
According to the reports, ICPC found that a few government officials added made-up beneficiaries to the list of beneficiaries receiving money from the N-Power scheme. The funds allocated to these fake names were then traced to accounts connected to D'banj.
The incriminated government officials have not been identified.
D'banj was questioned and taken into custody after his request for administrative bail was denied.
More fraud
Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil rights advocacy group, urged the EFCC and the ICPC to detain Aliyu Abdulhameed, the Managing Director of the allegedly terminated Nigerian Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NISRAL), for alleged fraud.
If Abdulhameed was fired by Buhari due to allegations of fund heists, HURIWA demanded his "immediate arrest and prosecution." The EFCC and ICPC should do their jobs, arrest the man, and bring charges against him. Anything less would be unfair. And if his dismissal was politically motivated, he should be put back in place right away.
HURIWA condemned what they described as the secret sacking of Abdulhameed after the media uncovered the alleged fraud.
According to them, the secrecy reveals Buhari's pretentious anti-corruption campaign.
Lawlessness with a sprinkle of legal stuff
The National Judicial Council has created 15 panels to investigate claims of misconduct against judges on the Federal and State High Courts.
The Director of Information at NJC, Soji Oye, stated on Friday that the investigation panels would decide whether the judges were guilty or innocent in the various petitions filed against them.
The statement omitted to name the judges who were the subject of the investigation, their divisions, or the specifics of their alleged transgressions. However, it was noted in the statement that the NJC had rejected 51 petitions against judges as being without merit, appellate-worthy, or because the judge in question had left the service.
Chief of Army Staff goes to prison?
Following the decision that found General Faruk Yahaya guilty of contempt and sentenced him to prison, a Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a lawsuit that aims to compel Buhari to fire General Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff right away.
Last month, the Niger State High Court ordered that the army chief be remanded at the Minna prison for purposely disobeying the court.
Yahaya was to be placed on remand along with Major General Stevenson Olugbenga Olabanji, Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Minna.
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
